A red or green Koopa without a Shell that enters a Red Shell becomes a red Koopa Troopa. Also, all Koopa shells can appear by themselves, including the Red Shell stomping a red Koopa Troopa out of its shell renders it a red Koopa without a Shell. In Super Mario World, if Yoshi eats a Red Shell, he will spit out a trio of fireballs instead of the shell a Red Yoshi can use this ability from any shell color. 3 also introduces Giant Red Shells, worn by Red Giant Koopas.
